Gary has lived in San Francisco since 1989, hailing originally from Michigan. He describes northwest Michigan and the Lake Michigan shore as a piece of paradise he enjoys returning to often. Gary enjoys exploring the globe, and recently combined his love of travel with his career by returning to graduate school at the University of California, San Francisco and receiving a Master's degree in Global Health Sciences to build on his previous career in health care administration. This new career path led him to work in Tanzania.

Gary has recently returned to an earlier love of bicycling after a foray into long-distance running. After running three AIDS Marathons, he came to the conclusion that his body simply wasn't intended to undergo that kind of activity. He is currently training for the AIDS LifeCycle, a 545-mile, 7-day ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to benefit the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center. He believes strongly that both organizations are enormous assets to the communities they serve by helping to prevent HIV infection and to offer services to people living with HIV and AIDS. He rides because he is here, he is able, and he believes in that it is one way to make a difference in the world.
